I like being a jack-of-all-trades too, but it is taxing. My way of dealing with my insatiable thirst for knowledge is to pick a topic/problem/project or two at a time. It's hard but without focus I don't get anywhere.

Perhaps you can work with faculty or universities and verify students with email from that institution. You are also getting them while they are young for what it's worth.

JetBrains manages academic email domains list: https://github.com/JetBrains/swot

This assumes your school actually provides email addresses, which just isn't the case in certain countries, not outside of higher education.

Decentralization is the only way it's safe out here. Once you give this much power to a monopoly we just look like insects to them. I've moved most of my accounts outside of Google that if I were to lose them it'd be a shame but not a total loss for me. I could then rebuild. Support the little guy today and you will have immunity by decentralization.

Honestly, AWS and Microsoft both seem pretty safe right now. This is pretty unique to Google. I keep warning people never to use Google for B2B, and I keep seeing people get burned.

Decentralization means there's a fire ever month, as some startup goes under or pivots. AWS, Azure, and Office 365 seem to take business continuity seriously.

Not sure that follows. Startups are often chasing the kind of hockey stick growth only seen where monopolizing markets (or at least their profits) is possible.

Upvoted. Love that you are not suggesting that another (worse?) monopoly (the government) has to come and save us poor devs. We have options and in reality Google is not a monopoly.

Without government enforcing a competitive market the inevitable consolidation will just continue to create and entrench monolpolists. Incentives tend towards one (or a few) winner takes all.

that is very wrong though. Governments or other monopolies don't enforce free markets. People are free by default and act as such, unless someone forces them otherwise (a big government).

Canada has a very dark history of violence against natives. The reputation of "being nice" is a recent media myth.

Virtually every country has a dark history of violence. And Canada doesn't even crack the top 10 there. I meant it within a reasonable frame of reference, like say 90s and 00s.

Seems like you forgot what it was like when Internet Explorer was the dominating browser.

Sounds like they're actively working towards recreating that world.

I really have no sympathy for a $100/h web developer that has no time to check with Firefox every once in a while that their Chromeism works over there as well. It's not like Firefox is a buggy browser that requires tons of work.

It's pure laziness.

Firefox and Brave should warn the user that they are going to be tracked by accessing URLs like these if tracking protection is enabled.

At this point a full-screen spyware warning with the only option to continue being a tiny "allow once/i know what I'm doing" would be appropriate. The lengths these companies go to to map your every move is beyond comprehension. And sure, there are bad actors and there always will be, but that they're the biggest companies in the world with a top notch reputation, in most circles, is absolutely insane.

Doesn't work well on Firefox Android. Zooming in causes the map to fly away who knows where.

- taking sick days when healthy - procrastinating aka slacking - dreading the next meeting, starting your work day, working on a deliverable - frequently oversleeping - abusing substances - normal work seems harder than usual because of a lack of focus

I went through the same recently. Became interested on too many different things, projects and topics because in my mind there was so much going on.

Get enough good sleep. If you don't sleep enough you won't be able to focus and retain anything you learned long-term. Don't put on headphones or fall asleep listening to videos/podcasts or looking at things on your phone.

Create a setting in which you can do 1 thing uninterrupted. If there are any potential distractions, put them away, turn them off or close as needed to create necessary boundaries.

As we grow older we accumulate and we obtain more things that we could make use of but have effectively the same or less time to devote to each individually.
