Wtf are you on my dude. Anthropic UI is designed like a slot machine? Hiring slot machine specialists? Sometimes I can’t believe im even on HN anymore with comments like this.
I think some of it comes from that they do not publicly let you see the random seed. So each time you ask the answer is different (like a slot machine) and if they let users use the random seed it would let people much more accurately assess if an underlying model changed somehow (same seed and same input will always have the same output).
Of course the closed Anthropic would never share this, it would definitely take away the 'magic' feeling of the AI
With models there are a bunch of other dials that can be tuned even if the model itself remains exactly the same.
Are those dials set the same across all hardware configurations and clusters? Does model behavior average out the same across different hardware?
There are just too many different buttons that can be set to really trust a provider either not to directly commit fraud, or indirectly commit fraud with system complexity affecting the output.
Imagine, for a moment, if we (humanity) were created to live in a simulation. We suffer and feel pain because our creators do not perceive us to be conscious. In fact, maybe we don’t qualify compared to their level of sentience. Sucks to be us, I guess?
What does suffering or pain even mean for a purely analytical entity like an LLM? We can feel pain because we have a body, pain receptors, and parts of our brain dedicated to converting their signals to a subjective experience. What can an LLM "feel"? The words pain, happiness, sadness, suffering are all abstractions of real experiences that can not yet be encoded in a way that an LLM can use as input. All the LLM has are the abstractions.
I for one welcome our AI overlords :D think about it, I'm with you on this one; an AI wont have petty issues or unresolved trauma when managing people, only hallucinations and blackouts. So a cocaine/meth addicted 80's boss from an it sitcom.
A time posted sort is an algorithm too. But that's obviously not what's meant here even if the "gotcha" is there for that too. It's the combination of profitability motivations and manipulation of dopamine responses that are the outcomes people object to.
It just kills me how there is this meme that minecraft is just walking around on a bunch of grass and dirt voxels and if you have that, you have minecraft. It was way, way more complicated than that even 15 years ago.
