We see this more locally in the US as well. There's something called the California effect. California emission standards were more strict than the rest of the country, but it didn't make sense to make California only vehicles and then vehicles for the rest of the country. So automakers built to the California standards and residents in all of the other states got to benefit from cleaner air as a result.
Yes, but you see this is all part of Anthropic's master plan. They know developers are incapable of renaming files so the fact that Anthropic resisted Agents.md is proof that they were trying to lock you into them as a vendor.
It also works more reliably. I've tested this quite a bit. Instructions in files referenced via CLAUDE.md are more likely to fall out of context or to be ignored. Raw project level CLAUDE.md instructions are the second most durable available as far as I know. I used to have a "well organized" hierarchy of rules and instructions. Collapsing all of that into CLAUDE.md + skills made things far more predictable and "as instructed".
I’ve been diving into Ink Master highlights on YouTube lately. These are typically all excellent artists but they don’t always produce excellent work. I’ve seen some hands that could have come out of an early gen ai model permanently inked into someone’s skin.
I didn't see the author make that statement. She stated she's seen that behavior from other women. My wife was a volunteer coordinator for our school district for two years. Not a single dad volunteered during the entire time she was there. Consequently, my wife seems to run into someone she knows basically every time we leave the house. Every time I leave the house I hope I don't see anyone I know and can just get about my day in peace.
Right? I've been automating things and eliminating jobs using technology for over 20 years. No you do not need a team of five to manage your monthly reporting. We can build automated reports that are delivered automatically to everyone who needs them! No you shouldn't be managing all of this data in an excel file on a shared computer. I don't care if 90% of what Dave does during the week is maintain that file. Let's streamline that.
Suddenly it's very different when it's our jobs being automated away.
Yes, I don't like it much either -- though I continue to be absolutely fascinated by all this -- but I realize this is unstoppable, and I must trust that on the balance technology has been extremely good for humanity and the source of all our progress, and so I must adapt to a new future.
But I also realize the impact of technology, good or bad, entirely depends on how society uses it, and that is where our focus must lie.
I wish I could help, but there are inconsistencies in my inner monologue that does assist in making it retreat into the background a little. For example, I interrogate my inner voice to find out what it *sounds* like; does it sound like me? Does an inner monologue actually make any sound? To me, it doesn't sound like anything, and helps reinforce the fleeting, slippery notion of an inner voice. It makes if feel, to me, as if that inner voice is the smoke from the underlying fire, as it were.
You can also disrupt an inner voice by speaking a word out loud. It does seem to impair working memory, unfortunately. Actually, thought suppression in general is associated with causing the target thought to recur more.
I rarely use Claude or Claude Desktop. Almost 100% of my usage is Claude Code because it ties into all of the private infrastructure I've built around it. I've had decent success using CC for generating Office documents of various formats. It tends to reach for a python script and library to generate them and the output is typically clean and easy to apply a template to. I have had issues where I need to manually modify the files to demonstrate format and style, but that's also something that can built into context after with references to templates.
Where do you see Claude doing better than what I'm seeing with Claude Code in these circumstances? Are there any reasons for me to leave my pretty heavily customized CC environment for the other versions?
What sort of issues do you see with spreadsheets? I almost never use Claude or Cowork. Just Claude Code. When I've generated or modified spreadsheets it tends to build python scripts for it which makes regeneration trivial. I have to fight a bit on formatting sometime, but I find if I format it the way I want I can get CC to read the file follow that in the future.
