If I ever hear this question it means I have failed as a presenter." I can not agree more. A presentation must be a tool to support your ideas, your information, your thoughts. Not the way around.
I don't think it means anything at all. People mostly ask for slide decks out of reflex, often because they weren't paying attention because they know they can get the slides later on.
